Licensing

LiVES is Free Software licensed under version 3 or higher of the GNU General Public License, the GNU GPL

Here's why that matters: Why?

If you would like to distribute some or all of the LiVES code in a commercial project*, please contact the author to discuss alternate licensing terms.

*Note: as an exception, you do not need permission to distribute the GPL version of LiVES together with a non-GPL-compatible program which either a) only interacts with LiVES via the commandline or via a built-in interface e.g. OSC or MIDI, or b) interacts with LiVES compiled as a library (libLiVES) through its C++ API, provided you meet the following criteria:

- In the documentation of each program which uses LiVES, add the following "This program uses LiVES (c) G. Finch and others"

- Make it conspicuous and clear to the end user that he/she is getting access to two separate pieces of software (i.e GPL LiVES in addition to the application using this product)

- Do not distribute any plugins which link to GPL libraries: most notably the frei0r plugin wrapper, and any versions of beat_detector which link with libfftw.

- The available source code for LiVES must be for the build that corresponds with your binaries.
